With prep for the legendary sketch comedy show’s 44th season underway, NBC just announced some surprising programming change. Indeed, according to the network’s Fall line-up, Saturday Night Live will now be airing on Mondays at 6 p.m.
When asked to comment, creator Lorne Michaels not only confirmed the news, but revealed that the show would also be taped on the prior Thursday afternoons.
“I haven’t had my weekends in 43 years,” Michaels explained. “I’m tired. In hindsight, we probably should have gone for a title that stated what we do, not when and how. It would have given us more leverage [….] But what do you want me to do now? Call it Monday Evening Pre-Recorded? I don’t think so.”
